This week our ‘Super Six’ story was ‘BEEGU’ by Alexis Deacon. She is lost. She is a friendly little creature, but the Earth People don't seem very welcoming at all. However, so far she has only met the BIG ones. The little ones are a different matter . . .
Our ‘Drawing Club’ focus was ‘The Way Back Home’ by Oliver Jeffers. One day a boy finds an aeroplane in his cupboard. Up, up, up and away he flies, high into the sky. Whizzing past clouds, stars and planets until suddenly, he runs out of petrol!
Miles from earth, the boy crashes into the moon and waits. Just as he is beginning to get cold and lonely, a friendly martian appears from the darkness, also with a broken aircraft.
Together they come up with a super plan to float the boy back down to earth to collect his toolbox.
Can the boy find his way back home safely and will he ever make it back up to the moon to rescue his friend?
This week our rainbow challenges have been:
Maths – count and write the total
Fine motor – cut and stick the Chinese dragons from longest to shortest
Literacy – look at the picture and write the CVC word
Funky fingers – use the chop sticks to put the pom poms back on to the Chinese dragon
Creative – decorate a Chinese lantern using the yellow/gold/red resources
Phonics – read the CVC words and colour the different parts of the dragon with the matching colours
ICT – order the numbers on the Chinese dragon
In maths this week Reception have started their new block of learning called ‘Building 9 and 10. We have been using the vocabulary more and fewer to talk about different amounts. We have also been looking at dominos and counting their spots to find the totals.
Nursery have been looking at the number 4 this week and revisiting Freddie Four in Ten Town by singing his song and listening to her story. They have been collecting different items to total the numeral 4 and also have been investigating pentagons.
This weeks nursery rhyme has been ‘TheTeddy Bear Song’ which can be found at the following link; Bing Videos
In Read Write Inc phonics this week Reception have been working hard to consolidate all their learning from this half term in preparation for their assessments which will be happening in a couple of weeks time. We will be using next week to continue to make sure the children are confident with the sounds they know and putting this into practice by reading a range of ‘real’ and ‘nonsense alien words’.
Nursery have continued to focus phonics learning around the different people who help us and this week have been focusing on ‘Going to the Vets’ and exploring the different sounds they make as well as the different sounds they might hear if they were to visit the vets.
We have been learning about Chinese New Year this week and celebrated this on the day which was Wednesday. As part of our learning we shared our learning of The Great Race story in collective worship. We have tried different Chinese food; beef in black bean sauce, plum and hoisin sauce and noodles and enjoyed these while we listened to some traditional Chinese music. We found out about the preparations that take place by Chinese people through a series of video clips from ‘Lets Celebrate’ on CBeebies which can be found using this link https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/chinese-new-year . We enjoyed acting out the story of ‘The Great Race’ and found out which animal of the zodiac we are depending on the year we were born. During the afternoon Mr Hetherington was in the classroom with us as Mrs Whaley was out of school and we enjoyed playing in the Chinese restaurant role play with him taking orders, preparing different food and taking his money off him when we were using the till!
Next week our ‘Super Six’ book is ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy and our Drawing Club focus is the traditional tale of Chicken Licken.
