13.12.24 The Everywhere Bear
13.12.24
This week our ‘Super Six’ story was ‘The Everywhere Bear by Julia Donaldson. The Everywhere Bear has a wonderful time with the children in Class One, but one day he gets more than he bargained for when he falls unnoticed from a backpack and embarks on his own big adventure! He's washed down a drain and whooshed out to sea, rescued by a fishing boat, loaded onto a lorry, carried off by a seagull . . . how will he ever make it back to Class One?
Our ‘Drawing Club’ focus story was the original animation MORPH. Morph is made out of plasticine and lives in a box and gets up to lots of different things when the box lid is open. Although he doesn’t speak the noises he makes lets others know what he wants!
This week our rainbow challenges have been:
Maths – find 2 numbers which make the different totals using dot cards or numicon
Fine motor – use the tweezers to count the bears into the trays to match the number
Literacy – read the words and choose which one matches the picture
Funky fingers – cut the different shapes and make a bear
Creative – make a snowman from the tubes
Phonics – read the word and match it to the picture
ICT – decorate the Christmas tree
In maths this week Reception have continued their new block of learning called ‘Alive in 5’ and have talking about capacity. They have had great fun in the water tray filling different containers and talking about whether they are full, half full or empty.
Nursery have been consolidating our learning from previous weeks and have really enjoyed doing lots of Ten Town maths challenges. This is something you can continue to use at home so please use the log in you were given at the beginning of term. If you need this information again please just ask.
This weeks nursery rhyme has been ‘Five Little Elves’ which can be found at; (663) Five Little Elves | Christmas Song For Kids | Super Simple Songs - YouTube
In phonics this week Reception have been reading lots of CVC words which contain Set 1 sounds and special friend sounds and have been writing CVC words too. We have started to look at nonsense and alien words which contain sounds that we already know as this is something which is part of the phonic assessment which will take place next week.
On Tuesday we had our Christmas lunch which was delicious. We sat in our classes with the teachers and governors and were served our lunch by the year 6 children. We had lots of fun pulling our crackers and wearing our party hats and Christmas jumpers!
On Wednesday morning we had our first performance of our whole school nativity which went brilliantly – we even had a real life baby Jesus! Baby Charlotte, Miss Campbell’s baby made her debut! On Thursday we finished our performances for this year with one in the afternoon and one in the evening where we were joined by Bear the Shetland Pony who identifies as a donkey for this special occasion to help make our last performance very special – which it was. We enjoyed retelling this special story, building up the nativity scene tableau and providing musical accompaniment to some traditional carols. EYFS were ‘stars’ and they shone brightly and sang ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ beautifully.
Next week our we will be looking back at the different ‘Super Six’ books we have shared this half term and enjoy hearing the stories again. We are very lucky to have our Christmas party next week which is organised by the staff at RAF Boulmer. We also have lots of Christmas activities planned as well as our EYFS stay and play on Thursday.
