29.11.24
This week our ‘Super Six’ story was ‘The Journey’ by Scott Mann and Neil Griffiths. As the boat slips from his grasp the boy watched it sadly as it disappeared from view – follow the boat on its exciting voyage into the unknown and marvel at what lies at its journeys end.
Our ‘Drawing Club’ focus story was the familiar story The Jolly Postman’ by Janet and Allan Ahlberg’. We talked about the importance of putting a stamp on a letter and making sure it has the persons name and address to make sure that the post person can make sure it gets delivered to the right place.
This week our rainbow challenges have been:
Maths – use the numicon to find different ways to make 4 and 5
Fine motor – sort the muddled up envelopes so they go from 1-5
Literacy – cut and stick the pictures to match where the postman delivered his letters on the story map
Funky fingers – peg the ‘ch’ labels to the pictures which start with ch
Creative – decorate a make a post bag
Phonics – write a list of words to match the pictures
ICT – complete an autumn picture jigsaw with 16 pieces
In maths this week Reception have started their new block of learning called ‘Alive in 5’ and have been looking at numbers which are 1 more and 1 less. We have also looked at the meaning of zero and have been recognising the numeral.
Nursery have been looking playing a dice game where they have needed to count the spots shown when they have rolled it and make a tower to match the total using cubes. They are getting really good at just recognising the numbers too.
This weeks nursery rhyme has been ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’ which can be found at; BBC iPlayer - Mr Tumble - Songs: Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
In phonics this week Reception have continued to recap Set 1 sounds including then additional special friends sh, ch, th, qu, ng and nk. We have been reading lots of CVC words which contain these sounds and have been writing CVC words too. This is going to be our focus over the next 3 weeks in preparation for the next assessment with Miss Sheridan. Everyone now has a something to read at home which matches the sounds we have taught and these books alongside the flashcards will support the children to practise this at home too.
Nursery have been looking at the traditional tale of ‘The 3 Little Pigs’ and their phonics sessions have been based around the story. They have listened for initial sounds and making exaggerated sounds to go with the different parts of the story.
We have started to practice our dance for the Christmas Nativity and we all look amazing as stars and our singing is just fantastic too. We have been rehearsing with the rest of school to bring it all together and we think you are going to be blown away with all the different talents in school that we are showcasing.
On Wednesday we wrote out letters to Santa and told him that we were all on the good list! On Friday we walked up to the village post box and posted the letters to Santa in Reindeerland. We made sure it had the right address on it and made sure it had a 1st class stamp so it should get there really quickly and hopefully we will receive a reply. When we got back to school we watched a video clip called ‘journey of a letter’ and found out all the different stages which happen once the letter goes into the post box and the steps it takes to being delivered to the person on the envelope.
On Friday morning we had a ‘Music Appreciation Day’ in school. We were lucky to have the Boulmer Military Wives choir perform for us before we took part in 3 different workshops; a Disney singalong, an interactive re tell of the story Peter and the Wolf and we were joined by Mr and Mrs Creasey who brought all their different brass and string instruments along to tell us all about them and play them for us. At the end of the day we were treated to a performance of Van Morrisons Moondance played by Miss Sheridan on the piano, Mrs Creasey and her double bass and Mr Creasey played his trumpet.
Next week our ‘Super Six’ book is ‘The Paper Dolls’’ by Julia Donaldson and our Drawing Club focus is the traditional tale of ‘The Gingerbread Man’.
