This week our ‘Super Six’ story was ‘Mrs Armitage on Wheels’ by Quentin Blake.  Mrs Armitage sets off for a quiet cycle with her faithful dog, Breakspear, but she just can't help thinking of ways to improve her bicycle. Before long, she’s added three very loud horns, a bucket of water to wash her hands and a seat for Breakspear. But it’s when she finally adds the mast and sail, that Mrs Armitage really runs into trouble… Join her for a bike ride like no other.

Our ‘Drawing Club’ focus was the animation of Button Moon where we met the characters Junk Planet and travel on different adventures with Mr Spoon in the rocket he has made from different pieces of recycling.

This week our rainbow challenges have been:

Maths – sort out the different representations of 9 and 10

Fine motor – make a 2D shape rocket

Literacy – write a caption to describe something that happened in Mrs Armitage on Wheels

Funky fingers – ‘how to catch a star’ use the tweezers to pick up the stars and put them in the jar

Creative – create different patterns in the night sky using the different coloured chalk

Phonics – select 5 pictures and use your phonics to write the word to match

ICT – find the sounds to complete the word matching the picture

In maths this week Reception have looking at different 3D shapes and finding out about their different properties. We have been exploring building with these shapes and whether we were able to build a tower with them or not. We have done a really good job of remembering the different 3D shape names; cone, cuboid, sphere, cube and cylinder and we have spotted these different shapes when we went around school and outside to find everyday 3D objects on our shape walk.

Nursery have continued to look at the numeral 5. We have been looking at composition and which numbers we can use to make 5 in total. We have had fun using the fives frames and also the numicon shapes to help us.

This weeks nursery rhyme has been ‘Alice the Camel’ which can be found at the following link; Alice the Camel - Counting Songs for Kids - Action Songs for Kids - by The Learning Station (youtube.com)

In NUFC this week it was competition week so we worked together to collect as many points as possible for our team. Each team had to take it in turns to complete different relay activities.

On Wednesday morning we went on our own rocket mission to the moon and had to complete an obstacle course before jumping on board our own spaceships to blast off into space.

In Read Write Inc phonics this week Reception have been working hard to consolidate all their learning from this half term as they have completed their assessments with Miss Sheridan this week. She said they had worked really hard and can see that everyone has made lots of progress and will be put into their new groups to start after the half term holiday.

Nursery have continued to focus phonics learning around the visiting the dentists. We have been listening out for initial sounds in words and also listening to different noises which we might hear when we visit the dentist.

Next week we are going to be rereading all our focus stories from this half term and basing our learning around those key texts as we move towards half term. Our Drawing Club animation is the original version of Thunderbirds and we are going to book looking at the book ‘The Story of a Helicopter’ for our Super Six focus.
