14.03.25 The Little Red Hen

14.03.24

This week our ‘Super Six’ story was ‘Six Dinner Sid’ by Inka Moore. Sid is a cat who is addicted to having six meals a day and glories in this lifestyle. Manipulative, persuasive and a charmer he has wrapped everybody round his little paw - each owner believes that Sid belongs to them only . . . until the day he is found out!

Our ‘Drawing Club’ focus was the traditional tale of ‘The Little Red Hen’. The little red hen decides to plant some wheat, but the lazy cat, dog and rat won't help her!

This week our rainbow challenges have been:

Maths –  fill in the missing numbers on the number tracks (10-20)

Fine motor – cut and stick the different characters to make a scene from the Little Red Hen story

Literacy – write the word to match the story pictures
Funky fingers – look at the number and count out the matching number of pasta pieces using the tweezers
Creative – make a hen using the different craft resources
Phonics – cut and stick the sounds to make words to match the picture
ICT – read as many words as you can in 90 seconds https://ictgames.com/mobilePage/helpAHedgehog/index.html

In maths this week Reception have been continuing to look at numbers to 20. We have been using number tiles to order to 20 and have been spotting if any have been missing and working out what they are by looking at the tens and ones and talking about the numerical patterns.

Nursery have been talking about length and height and have been using the vocabulary tall/short and long/short this week when comparing different resources.

This week’s number song has been ‘I can count to 20’ which can be found at the following link; Bing Videos

In Read Write Inc phonics this week Reception have continued to work in our 3 separate groups with Mrs Whaley, Mrs Parker and Miss Protheroe. Mrs Whaley’s group have been focusing on recapping Set 2 sounds and special friends and being able to spot these quickly in words when sounding them out. In Mrs Parker’s group the children have been reviewing Set 1 sounds and are beginning to learn Set 2 sounds. In Miss Protheroe’s group they have started to learn Set 3 sounds.

On Tuesday morning Connor came to talk to the whole school about ‘Green Careers’ and the types of jobs people have to help save and preserve the planet.  We then talked about where we have seen wind turbines and how they can help generate electricity in a much more environmentally friendly way.

On Wednesday morning we took our learning outside and retold the story of the Little Red Hen using different character masks and took on the roles of the different animals.

On Thursday morning Tom from the Northumberland Cricket Board came to do our PE lesson which will continue for the rest of this half term. Everyone had a turn at batting and fielding and there was some great hand and eye co-ordination going on!

Next week our ‘Super Six’ book is ‘Kipper’s New Pet’ by Mick Inkpen our ‘Drawing Club’ animation is the original class ‘’Roadrunner’.
