12.07.24 Captain Pugwash

12.07.24

This week our ‘Super Six’ was ‘Pirates in Pyjamas’ by Caroline Crowe. Have you ever wondered whether pirates wear pyjamas when it’s time to say goodnight? Well leap aboard the Leaky Parrot to find out! Captain Grotbeard and his crew love nothing better than bubble baths, jim-jams and pillow fights! So if you want to be a pirate you don’t need a patch or sword – just grab your best pyjamas and a bed to climb aboard.

Our ‘Drawing Club’ animation was Captain Pugwash. The eponymous hero – Captain Horatio Pugwash – sails the high seas in his ship called the Black Pig, assisted by cabin boy Tom, pirates Willy and Barnabas, and Master Mate. His mortal enemy is Cut-Throat Jake, captain of the Flying Dustman.

This week our rainbow challenges have been:

Maths –  fill in the missing numbers on the pirates treasure

Fine motor – dress a pirate

Literacy – describe the picture
Funky fingers – cut and stick the missing pieces from the pirate jigsaw
Creative – design and make your own pirate ship
Phonics – read the words on the coins and descide if they are ‘treasure or bin’ words
ICT – underwater counting game

This week we have all been designing and decorating t-shirts ready to wear during our catwalk showcase dance which is happening next week. We have chosen the 90s so we have designed our t-shirts to have a union jack on them as this was something that was popular during this decade. We have been practising our dance and learning some actions and can not wait to show you all.

This week we had our last NUFC session with Jamie and enjoyed playing different games outside on the field as it was sunny on Monday!!! We have really enjoyed working with the NUFC team and look forward to welcoming them back next year to continue to deliver multi skills to all of EYFS.

On Monday morning when we arrived at school our role play area had been changed into a fish and chip shop and also an ice cream parlour. It was such a lovely surprise. It has only been open for one week only but we have been enjoying taking on the different roles of the shop keeper, customer and the ice cream/fish and chip server. We also were very lucky that we had a ice cream treat too and were able to decorate our ice cream with sauce and a flake!

On Thursday we had a visit from Tiddywinks who took us on a pirate adventure. We sailed the seven seas and were able to wear different costumes whilst we moved in different ways to music. It was an amazing experience and can’t wait until our next one next year.

We have thoroughly enjoyed sharing our learning with you throughout this year and hope you have enjoyed coming along for the journey! We really work so hard in St George Class but also have lots of fun too and are looking forward to welcoming you back in September for the start of our new school year.

Have a lovely holiday,

Mrs Whaley, Mrs Archer and the superstars of St George Class! x
