21.06.24 Hole in the Bottom of the Sea

21.06.24

This week our ‘Super Six’ was ‘Theres a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea’ which was adapted by Jessica Law. In this rhyming story we discovered amazing and fascinating sea creatures in the hole in the bottom of the sea! Each verse introduces a new creature and its place in the food chain, with the shark chasing the eel, who chases the squid, who chases the snail.

Our ‘Drawing Club’ story was the original animation of ‘POPEYE’. Popeye eats lots of spinach to make him big and strong but he often gets into lots of difficulties and trouble when he sees his enemy Bilbo.

This week our rainbow challenges have been:

Maths –  write the number 1 more or 1 less than the numicon shapes

Fine motor – use the coloured dabbers to complete the seaside pictures

Literacy – what can you see under the sea caption writing
Funky fingers – use shells/gems to make a picture of a fish
Creative – make split pin sea creature
Phonics – look at the picgture and write some words to describe what you can see
ICT – underwater counting game

This week it has been National Sports Week so we have been keeping very active all week. On Monday we had our individual events sports day where we completed the long jump, standing high jump, javelin and discus. We competed against each other and the winning boy and girl in each class received a certificate. During the afternoon we completed the running races and the winning people received a medal and 2nd and 3rd place got stickers. On Tuesday we did our second day of sports day activities and work together in mixed aged teams. We were very lucky that we had 8 different activities to complete; obstacle course, throws, buckaroo, football shoot out, sack race, high jump and the water relay. During each activity we collected points and the winning team received a medal and the 2nd and 3rd place teams received certificates. This year ur different teams were countries who are taking part in the Olympics in Paris 2024. It was such a fun few days with great team work and lots of cheering for each other. On Wednesday we all went into the hall to take part in a live danceathon with Darcey Bussell and her team. We had to listen very carefully to their instructions and in the end learnt 3 new different dances – the teachers even joined in too!

When we have not been so busy with sporty things we have used the time to consolidate our learning that we have been doing during the past few weeks in phonics and maths. This has been a great opportunity to see whether there are ay gaps we still need to work on over the forthcoming weeks but also to see whether the children have great strengths.

We are hoping that the weather stays nice and sunny as it has done for the past few days so we can get out into the garden and use the different large and small loose parts to build even better pirate ships and have lots of different adventures with our friends.

Next week our ‘Super Six’ book is ‘Molly Rogers Pirate Girl’ by Cornelia Funke and our ‘Drawing Club’ story is ‘Pirate Pete and his Parrot’ by Jenny Woods.
